Instructions for Photogarphs

We need a latest picture of child(ren) for the Bee Book 2006 to be given during the NSF Finals. Please have your recent professionally-taken digital passport size photograph ready with plain background. We want your best looking photo for the 2006 Bee Book. Please follow the specifications on the requirements for a quality photo.

Outlined below are series of steps to create Web-friendly digital pictures. Please follow these steps to create digital pictures of your child(ren). If you need any information regarding sending the digital pictures, please contact NSF at nsfphoto@gmail.com

Want to make your digital photos web-friendly?

Do you have digital / flash photos that look like they were in the war zone? Do you want to make them look presentable?
 
Step 1:

Download free software called “IrfanView”. IrfanView is user friendly and resource efficient software.It's so powerful, and it's unbelievable. Best of all it’s a Freeware! Download IrfanView from here: http://www.irfanview.com/

Step 2:

Take a digital picture of you or use an already taken picture (but make sure it is a recent one)

Step 3:

• Open a photo in the viewer
• Select: Image -> Resize/Resample image
• In "Set new size" go to Width and try "200” if it is much bigger than 200 pixels
• Click "OK"
     Height will change proportionately.  

Step 4:

• Select: Image -> Enhance colors-> Gamma Correction
• Use your judgment to correct between 1.50 and 2.00 (in most cases). Compare as you go along in the windows
• Click "OK"
• See if brightness needs to be changed.
• Sometimes depending on the ambient light, you have too much red, blue or green and that too can be corrected.

Step 5:

• Select: File -> Save as -> give a new name.

Remember to name the file appropriately before sending it - Following the naming convention given below is very crucial:

File name should be named as contestant’s firstname_lastname_contest.jpg

Contest name abbreviations: JSB-Junior Spelling Bee; SSB-Senior Spelling Bee; JV-Junior Vocabulary; SV-Senior Vocabulary; MB1, MB2, MB3, MB4-Math Bee Levels 1/2/3/4; BB-Brain Bee; SEB-Senior Essay Writing Bee

For Example:

• Contestant Name: Sai Gunturi
• Contest Participating in: SSB
• Then name of the file should read as: sai_gunturi_ssb.jpg.

If you participate in multiple contests, insert all the contests:

• For Example, if Sai Gunturi is participating in SSB and MB3, then the name of the file should be sai_gunturi_ssb_mb3.jpg to include both SSB and Math Bee Level 3.
