Namaste! The list is mighty impressive, and it just keeps growing! What list you ask? The 2006 list of children of Indian ancestry who have qualified to participate in the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee to be held later this month in Washington, D.C. We are pleased to say that several of these children are former NSF bee participants and winners. Many NSF children have also qualified to participate in the 2006 National MathCounts and the 2006 National Geographic Bee. We feel proud and privileged to have had the opportunity to inspire and mentor many of these children through our bees. We wish them well now and in all of their future endeavors. |

Bee 2006Online registration is now closed. The regional bees will continue through May. Be sure to view photos of completed contests on our home page. We're thrilled to report that over 6,500 contestants registered in the various categories this year. Of these, Palo Alto, CA, had the highest registration at 421, closely followed by Detroit, MI, at 348 and Dallas, TX, at 316. Volunteers are our greatest asset and we wish to recognize their inexhaustible dedication in making NSF contests hugely popular. They sure make it seem easy. Thank you, ALL! NSF will publish finalists' names by the end of May to enable parents to begin planning for their participation in the National Final. Please visit our newly redesigned Web site to read eligibility/enrollment requirements and become familiar with general contest rules. Also, be sure to encourage your child to play the Spelling Game and the Vocabulary Game. |

CONTEST FEEDBACKWhen we hear things like “(we) would like to thank your foundation for making such a difference to my life, and It always amazes me how all the volunteers work so hard - with a smile on their face - and an encouraging word for every child, it reinforces our belief that every child has potential and confirms for us that the work we do is helping tap that potential to the greatest. We are currently compiling parental feedback from the regional contests regarding various aspects of the contests, including successes, improvements and expectations for future contests. Parents, we appreciate hearing from you. If you have additional suggestions/comments, feel free to share them with us at any time. |
