Mumbai, the financial, commercial and entertainment capital of India and also the most populous city in the country, has an excellent blend of lifestyles. Originally an archipelago of seven islands, the city has a lineage of the Maurya Empire, the Delhi Sultanate, the Mughal Empire, the Portuguese and the British rules. The diversity of Mumbai lies in being home to the largest number of slum-dwellers and largest billionaires in Asia. Mumbai has a literacy rate of 90% (data from UNICEF survey). Most colleges in the city are affiliated with the University of Mumbai, one of the largest universities in the world in terms of the number of graduates.

It has been NSF's main mission to encourage merit students from low-income families to pursue their dreams by providing scholarships to attend professional colleges.

Mumbai Chapter was established in the year 2014.
