2017 News

2017 Regional Contests:
The 2017 Regional contests will be held during the following dates:

  • March 18 - March 19
  • April 8 - April 9
  • April 29 - April 30
Chapers will setup the calendars and schedule the contest dates based on availability of venue at their respective chapters.

Please note that the 2017 National Finals will be held on August 12 and 13, 2017 at the University of Houston - Bauer College of Business in Houston, TX.

2016 News

A Tribute to an outstanding NSF volunteer - Mr. Sankar Gunturu:
North South Foundation regrets to announce the sudden demise of Mr. Sankar Gunturu, a longtime and an outstanding volunteer from Denver, CO chapter. Sankar has been actively involved in chapter activities and compiling photos for the Bee Book during the National finals for many years. He is survived by Jyotshna and two daughters; Jyotshna is also a long time dedicated volunteer with a lead role as the Chapter Coordinator for Denver and Zonal Coordinator for the West region. She is also an online coach for MB2 and SAT English. May God bless Sankar with the ultimate reward of Nirvana for doing Nishkama Karma. May God bless Jyotshna and her two daughters with strength and patience to handle this great loss of their loved one, Sankar.

2016 Online Coaching Sessions
Registrations for Online Coaching will start September 3, 2016.

  • Registration Deadline: September 18, 2016
  • Late fee after 09/18/2016: varies depending on the course
  • Deadline with the late fee: 09/25/2016
Classes Start Date: Classes are tentatively scheduled to start during first week of October.
    New Programs this year:
    • MB1 (Elementary Math) for grades 1 and 2
    • MB2 (Pre-Mathcounts) for grade 3
    • Science program was expanded from 10 to 15 weeks this year
    • ACT was added to SAT as a combined program to include both SAT and ACT
    • Life Skills Program for confidence building for grades 5 through 9


2016 National Finals:
The 2016 National Finals held successfully on August 20 and 21 at The University of South Florida in Tampa, FL.

Participation is only by invitation with Priority list candidate registration followed by Wait-list candidate registration as communicated by email. Regardless of the ranks at the Regional Contests, invitees are selected based on their total score. A cut-off score is determined based on the capacity of the rooms for a given contest.

Free Common Core based Math Practice Assessments:
Mathus Academy is organizing MathCore (Common Core Math) prep tests and MathGenius (Critical Thinking Math) Contest for children across United States. The online tests will be conducted from March 14th – 20th and are open for any 3rd to 8th grade children nationwide.

2015 Online Coaching Sessions
Registrations for Online Coaching sessions are now closed.

  • Registration Deadline: September 20, 2015
  • Late fee after 09/20/2014: varies depending on the course
  • Deadline with the late fee: 09/25/2015
  • Deadline for changing coaches: 10/10/2015
Classes will start one to two weeks after the registration closes, except for Science where classes will start at the end of October or at the beginning of November.


2015 National Finals:
The 2015 National Finals will be held on August 29 and 30 at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.

Participation is only by invitation with Priority list candidate registration followed by Wait-list candidate registration as communicated by email. Regardless of the ranks at the Regional Contests, invitees are selected based on their total score. A cut-off score is determined based on the capacity of the rooms for a given contest.

Registration Schedule:

  • Priority List: Registration opens on May 16, 2015. Closes on May 24, 2015
  • Wait List: Registration opens on May 25, 2015. Closes on June 01, 2015

2014 News

2014 Coaching Sessions
Registrations for Mathcounts, SAT, Geography and Universal Values coaching sessions are now closed. Classes will begin as per the schedule below -

  • Mathcounts & Pre-Mathcounts Coaching - week of October 13 or week of October 20 (depending on coach)
  • SAT Coaching - October 17
  • Geography Coaching - week of October 13
  • Universal Values Coaching - week of October 20
Note that the above dates are tentative start dates. Your coaches will notify the exact start date. Also, given that we have classes on each day of the week, the exact start date will vary for each class based on the day of the class.

Sept. 30, 2013: 2013 Coaching Sessions

  • Math Online Coaching - (Registration Fee: $150; Late Registration Fee: $170)
  • SAT Online Coaching - (Registration Fee: $250; Late Registration Fee: $280)
  • Universal Values Online Coaching - (Registration Fee: $50; Late Registration Fee: $60)
Registration Deadline: October 8th - 2/3rd of the fees is tax-deductible
Late Registration Deadline: October 10th - 2/3rd of fees is tax-deductible
Tentative Program Start Date: October 12th (Given that we have classes on each day of the week, start date will vary for each class based on the day of the class.)

2013 NSF National Finals:
The 2013 National Finals are held successfully on Aug. 17th and 18th at Duke University, Durham, NC.

2013 Regional Contest Dates:
Regional contests will be held on one of the following dates:
March 23 - March 24
April 6 - April 7
April 27 - April 28

New redesigned web site launched for NSF on 10th January, 2011
Most of the parents felt the need in the surveys conducted after 2010 regional contests and National finals. This effort was taken on priority to complete in the last few months. The new web site is designed to have improved navigation and user friendliness. We would like to hear your comments on the new web site. Please send your comments to nsfcontests@gmail.com.

2010 News

Notification for starting New NSF Chapters for unrepresented locations.
Requirements for 2011 season:

  • Announce the chapter and open the contest calendar by Dec 31st, 2010
  • Should be able to attract a minimum of 10 children to register for each of the contests planned in the chapter
  • Need to find a committed group of volunteers for conducting the contests
  • Find a proper venue for organizing the contests

NSF National Finals were held on August 21st and 22nd, 2010 at Rowan University, Glassboro, NJ.

Winning Bees Spells Glory for Indian Kids - Wall Street Journal, July 14, 2010

NSF kid Surabhi Iyer, Franklin, MA won the "Jeopardy! Kids Week" show on July 5, 2010.
In addition to a prize of $23,001/- she also won her family a 11 day expedition trip "Land Of The Ice Bears: An In-Depth Exploration Of Arctic Svalbard" run by Lindbald Expeditions and National Geographic. A remote archipelago situated just over 350 miles north of Norway’s North Cape, Svalbard is a place of deep fjords, mountains and massive sheets of ice and is home to Arctic wildlife such as Polar bears, walrus, arctic birds etc.

Geography Bee icons at the 2009 National Geography Bee.
NSF children Arjun Kandaswamy from Beaverton, OR and Shantan Krovvidi from Raleigh, NC ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively at the National Geography Bee held in Washington D.C.

Rajit Krishnamurthy's Fundraiser sends 10 Indian kids to College for a year.
Sixteen-year-old Rajit Krishnamurthy raised $2,500 to help students in India attend college because he wanted to give back to a cause that was 'CLOSE TO MY HEART'. - April 20, 2009 Read more...

USA National Brain Bee Champion
Nithya Vijayakumar wins the 4th place at the 2009 USA National Brain Bee Championship in Washington, DC. Nithya was the NSF Brain Bee Champion in NSF Nationals 2008 held at MIT. She was also a Scripps National Spelling Bee Finalist in 2007. She is from the NSF Detroit Chapter.
