General Description

The primary goal of these contests is to foster the spirit of competition and learning among the youth. Parents and children should focus on the joy of learning and interaction with other participants rather than on the possible outcome of the contest. The Video/poster contest of the Panacea Challenge is primarily to encourage the Student's creative and research skills.

In addition to all the rules stated in the General Info section, the following rules are applicable for the Video/poster category of the Panacea Challenge.

Video/poster Rules
  1. All entries must be a digital video submitted in the .mp4 or .mov format.
  2. Each entry must focus on ONE of the following "Community Improvement" themed topics centered around DEI.Some topic ideas are given below
    • Addressing mental health among adolescents
    • Improving healthcare access for underserved communities
    • Addressing the gender pay gap
    • Increasing school or workplace diversity
    • Online learning educational disparities during COVID
    • Community approach to preventing homelessness
    • Food insecurity and health outcomes
    • Bridging communication gaps within the community or amongst different generations of individuals
  3. The length of the video should be a maximum of 3 minutes for juniors and a maximum of 4 minutes for intermediate and seniors.
  4. In case of collaboration, the submission will be under the oldest contestant’s name and grade level, and due credit should be given to all the team members
  5. The video should be named in the format: FirstName LastName GradeLevel of the student submitting the video.
  6. Each video should begin with a screen that has the Student’s name, Grade, City/State and Video title.
  7. The video content must be original. If public information/music is used, credit should be given to the original source.
  8. Do not use copyrighted materials in your video including music, images and video clips without prior written permission from the original creator.
  9. Students can collaborate with friends and family as long as the student is the lead contributor of content and is director of the video.
  10. Submit your videos before the deadline date.
  11. Only one video submission per student.
  12. Once submitted, the student will not be able to resubmit the video. All submissions are final.
  13. Content must comply with all local and national laws of the United States. Content must not:
    • promote illegal behavior.
    • support racial, religious, sexual or other invidious prejudice.
    • advocate sexual or violent exploitation.
    • violate rights established by law or agreement.
    • invade the privacy of any person; or
    • be otherwise inappropriate as determined by North South Foundation.
  14. All entries must be submitted in English.
Judging
  1. Guidelines for judging criteria:
    • Production Quality: High quality video and audio. Well edited.
    • Creative Video Elements: Creative use of music, visuals, captions, props, and/or costumes.
    • Vocabulary, Grammar, and Sentence Structure: No spoken grammatical errors. Well-constructed sentences with skillful word choice.
    • Organization: Follows a smooth and logical flow.
    • Quality of Presentation: Effectively presents and analyzes information.
    • Delivery and Voice: Reflects commitment to topic and engages the reader.
    • Out of the Box Thinking/ Novelty of Ideas: Displays creative thinking and displays a grasp of the bigger picture relating to topic.
    • Theme and Video Length: Adheres to theme and video length requirements.
  2. Judge’s decision is final. Please refer to the judging rubric.
Winners and Ranks:
  1. Winners will be selected based on:
    • Originality
    • Creativity
    • Clarity of topic
    • Evidence Based Research
    • Depth of Analysis
    average scores of the three judges, winners will be determined. The 1st place winner shall be ahead by at least (.01) to be declared as the champion. In announcing the ranks 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, the following rules apply:
    • Announce Ranks 1, 2 and 3, if and only if there are at least 10 contestants.
    • Announce Ranks 1 and 2 ONLY, if there are 8 or 9 contestants.
    • Announce Rank 1 ONLY, if there are 5-7 contestants.
    • Ranks will not be announced if there are less than 5 contestants.
  2. Submitted videos may be displayed at any subsequent National Finals held by North South Foundation or Annual Review.
