What is ACSL ?
ACSL (American Computer Science League) is a computer science competition program that helps students build computational thinking, logical reasoning, and problem-solving skills through engaging challenges.
Think. Solve. Compete.
Through the NorthSouth program, students in Grades 3–9 prepare for official computer science contests with guided learning and practice. Beginners are welcome, even if they have no prior coding experience.

WHY ACSL MATTERS
When answers get easy,
thinking is the edge.
AI can write the answer in seconds. Can your child tell if it’s right?
ACSL builds computational thinking, logical reasoning and problem-solving: understanding the problem, judging the answer, and knowing what to do when it’s wrong. Like calculators, AI makes number sense and logic more important, not less.
4
Official ACSL contests every school year, with a path to the Finals by invitation.
Not just another coding course
Prep is built around real contests, which give children focus, a deadline and honest feedback.

HOW WE PREPARE
Learn. Practice. Compete.
Four times a year.
The same simple rhythm before every contest, with study materials between sessions and an optional catch-up week when needed.

Finals · May 29 by invitation, based on contest performance (2026–27 season). Each group picks its own test date inside the official windows.
OUR JOURNEY
A small pilot.
Real student growth.
Louisville + Pittsburgh
Our first season tested the full model in two chapters: virtual coaching, practice and official contests. Now we’re taking what worked to families nationwide.

NATIONAL REACH, LOCAL CONNECTIONS
You register. We build the team.
Every student registers individually. We group by grade, experience, location and availability: chapter teams where students are nearby, regional virtual teams where they’re not. A youth coach (a high school or college mentor) leads sessions, and parent coordinators keep families connected. No computer science background needed.

GOOD TO KNOW
Questions families ask
Can a complete beginner join?
Yes. No coding experience is needed, and preparation starts from the basics.
Do we have to meet on a particular day?
No. Meeting times are agreed within each group after registration.
My child is in grade 6. Elementary or Junior?
Placement follows official ACSL division rules, and we’ll guide you after registration.
What does the $100 registration fee include?
The $100 fee covers the NorthSouth ACSL 2026–27 program, including:
- Registration and participation in all four official ACSL regular-season contests
- Guided coaching and preparation sessions
- Learning resources and practice materials
- Team formation based on grade, readiness, and availability
- Contest coordination and ongoing program support
Team assignments and coaching schedules will be shared after enrollment.
Is the program valuable even if my child doesn’t qualify for the ACSL Finals?
Absolutely! Finals qualification is an exciting achievement, but the real value lies in the learning journey.
Students develop computational thinking, logical reasoning, problem-solving skills, teamwork, and confidence through guided preparation and competition.
Our goal is to inspire curiosity, encourage growth, and help every child discover their potential - regardless of competition results.
Do we need to form our own team?
No. Register individually and NorthSouth coordinates the groups.
Is the readiness check a selection test?
No. It’s a placement and support tool, not an entrance exam.
Can my child participate through NorthSouth if their school already has an ACSL team?
ACSL rules require students whose schools have an ACSL team to compete through their school.
NorthSouth welcomes students whose schools do not offer ACSL teams. If your child’s school already participates, please contact us before registering to clarify eligibility and available options.
Is ACSL Finals participation included in the $100 fee?
Finals qualification is based on individual performance during the regular season. ACSL charges a separate Finals registration fee, which is not included in the $100 NorthSouth program fee. However, students who qualify will continue to receive dedicated coaching, preparation resources, and guidance from NorthSouth at no additional cost, ensuring they are well-supported as they prepare for the Finals.
Does registering guarantee a spot at the Finals?
No. Finals invitations depend on ACSL contest performance
