Vocabulary is essential for effective communication. Increasing Vocabulary is the key to achieving fluency in a language. Words are the instruments by means of which people grasp the thoughts of others, and an instrument for expressing their thoughts clearly. The Human Engineering Laboratory found that the only common characteristic of successful people in any field is an unusual grasp of the meanings of words, i.e. Vocabulary.
Why study Vocabulary? The capacity to express oneself clearly is a skill that must be encouraged when young. This ability will pay dividends as the child grows older. The more extensive your vocabulary, the better your chances for success - not only in your educational and career goals, but also in achieving your intellectual potential. Being able to pick up new vocabulary is not only useful, but an essential skill that is crucial to succeed.
Can Vocabulary be learned?Vocabulary is not inherited - it is learned. Vocabulary can be improved by methodical efforts guided by a good coach. Students must realize that Vocabulary is not about learning definitions of obscure words by rote. Rather, it is about becoming acquainted with the etymology behind each word and treating every new word you encounter as an opportunity to learn a new concept.
Our Approach to Vocabulary CoachingThe goal of the North South Vocabulary Program is to equip you with the skills you need to gain mastery over vocabulary. Each of the eight sessions will focus on a different skill, as well as a distinct set of roots, and a distinct set of new words to learn. The best way to learn is through hands on experience, and thus interactivity will be a part of the coaching experience. Special emphasis will be placed on using memory techniques to learn the words instead of simply mugging them from a list.
DurationThe coaching program will be a total duration of 8 hours with a 1-hour session each week.
